Sat 1 May 2010 (time tba) - Melbourne International Jazz Festival @ National Gallery of Victoria
In their first trio collaboration, David Chesworth and Clocked Out Duo combine modified field recordings, found objects, keyboards and percussion. Here they gradually strip back textures and rhythms of everyday life to reveal obscure presences lurking within. Live mixing, intricate cross-rhythms, and ritualistic improvisations uncloak the spirit world of the Other.

"After the kingfisher's wing
Has answered light to light, and is silent, the light is still
At the still point of the turning world." - T.S. Eliot (from "Burnt Norton")

The mystical imagery of T.S. Eliot's Four Quartets is the inspiration for composer Erik Griswold's major new work "After the kingfisher's wing," a labyrinth of intricate textures, mind bending polyrhythms, still points interrupted by sudden bursts of energy. Featuring Janet McKay - flute, Anthony Burr - clarinet, Graeme Jennings - violin, Liam Viney - piano, and Vanessa Tomlinson - percussion.

Music of the Unexpected

Music of the Unexpected is an impulsive adventure story with a difference. It is surprising, bewildering and unpredictable. Without warning, as if from nowhere, astonishing things happen. It's an aural and visual rollercoaster.
