Concerto for Prepared Piano and Percussion (2007) for prepared piano and percussion quartet Score & parts (135 pgs) $75 - Sample Score The Concerto is a summation of ideas and sounds developed over a period of eight years - my entire life in Australia, in fact. I found rhythms from my everyday life spilling into the music - breathing rhythms, the syncopation of the car door falling shut, as well as hypnotic, trance-like waves, the mechanical tinkling of miniature music boxes, and even a somewhat skewed Batucada (Brazilian Samba) band! Recently featured at PASIC 2009. |

Strings Attached (1999) for percussion sextet Score & parts (34 pgs) $50 - Sample Score "Through the intricately choreographed score of rolls and accents, the quivering ropes suggested gusts of wind or sound wave phenomena, in what became a percussion tour de force and kinetic sculpture all in one." - Josef Woodard, Los Angeles Times "If you are looking for a very unique percussion ensemble work at either the high school or college level that will be both fun and entertaining, 'Strings Attached' is the piece." - Percussive Notes 69

Spill (2007) for soloist Currently no score available. Contact the composer directly with inquiries. Music and kinetic sculpture merge in the percussion compositions of Erik Griswold. In Spill a large cone-shaped pendulum swings through the space, gently spilling out 20 kilos of rice grains. The solo performer humbly offers bowls, temple bells, rice paper and other sounding materials to produce delightfully unexpected rhythms. |

In the dream (2004) for percussion sextet Score and parts (37 pages) $50 - Sample Score "In the dream" uses traditional orchestral percussion (vibraphone, marimba, bass drums...) along with non-western instruments and found objects (gongs, rain stick, brake drums, metal springs) to produce a layering of sound colours from distinct cultural sources.
|
Nostalgic Strains (2004) for percussion trio. Score and parts (27 pages) $35 - Sample Score The only one of my pieces to use drumkit, "Nostalgic Strains" explores many similar textures to "Simple Addition" and "In the Dream", but with a backbeat! |
|
Simple Addition (2005) for percussion duo Score (11 pages) $20 - Sample Score Deep grooves for vibraphone and marimba augmented by bowls, pots, springs & other found objects "a nice work for an advanced recital or chamber music program." - Percussive Notes 69
|
Hypnotic Strains (1998) for solo percussion Score (9 pages) $20 - Sample Score "Hypnotic Strains" is an innovative multiple percussion composition...This very creative piece will demand a high degree of technical control and musicality from the performer. - Percussive Notes 69 RealTime magazine (Australia) called it "magical." |

Switch (1991) for solo percussion Score (4 pages) - FREE DOWNLOAD! "This work, scored for any three instruments, uses repeated one and two-bar phrases to construct an extended work based on the four-against-three polyrhythm. Working at a brisk suggested tempo (260 bpm), the player juxtaposes a four-beat pattern in one limb against a three-beat pattern in the opposing limb. The player switches instruments in each limb to create minimalist melodic patterns as the piece evolves. The length of the work may vary based on the player's prerogative to repeat any phrase." - Percussive Notes 69 |
